Stalin and other DMK leaders are responsible for vaccine hesitancy in Tamil Nadu: BJP state chief L Murugan | India News

CHENNAI: President of BJP’s Tamil Nadu unit L Murugan on Tuesday charged that DMK leader M K Stalin had raised doubts about Covid-19 vaccination when he was the opposition leader and this resulted in vaccine hesitancy among the public.
Till recently, the daily vaccination had been around 30,000 and several hundreds of vials of the vaccines had been wasted due to the hesitation among the people to take the jab, he said.
“Stalin, the then opposition leader and now the chief minister, and his party leaders raised doubts over its safety. The wrong campaign against vaccination had created panic among the public, resulting in poor vaccination. But the DMK leaders took the jabs,” said Murugan while addressing mediapersons at the party headquarters.
“Now, the vaccination has picked up. The central government has also taken necessary measures to vaccinate the entire eligible population in the country, including Tamil Nadu, by November this year,” he said.
He rejected the allegation that the Centre was showing disparity in allocating vaccines to non-BJP ruled states.
Murugan said Tamil Nadu would gradually receive the vaccine. “We hope that the state will receive the adequate vaccine,” he said.
Asked about the Union government’s delay in responding to the request of the Tamil Nadu government to hand over the integrated vaccine complex at Chengalpet to the state government, Murugan said it was not “mechanic or a lorry shed” as experts should inspect the facilities and take the call.
He said only two companies in the nation were manufacturing the vaccines and scientists should check whether the facility had the adequate infrastructure and technology to manufacture the vaccines.
“The Centre is yet to take a call on this. There is all possibility the Centre itself can use the facility,” he said.
