Pakistan keeps on making efforts to create disturbances in Punjab: State DGP | India News

BATHINDA: In a tribute to those who laid down their lives for sovereignty of the country, the police martyr memorial has been set up at Barnala. Punjab director general of police Dinkar Gupta on Friday evening inaugurated the memorial built at senior superintendent of police office at Barnala.
27 police personnel were martyred in district Barnala while 1800 personnel laid down their lives during the terrorism era in Punjab, which continued for nearly 15 turbulent years.
Recalling the tough times DGP Dinkar Gupta said that Punjab being the border state had to face internal and external forces bent upon causing disturbances in the state. Punjab shares a 550 kilometre long border with Pakistan, which continues to make efforts to foment trouble in the state. Under such circumstances Punjab police personnel from DIG to home guards and SPOs came forward in making supreme sacrifices to save the state from disintegrating and authenticated the saying that Punjabis are always at the forefront in making sacrifices.”
Accompanied by Patiala Range DIG Vikram Jeet Duggal, the DGP further said that we never see such sacrifices by police of any state or even country as shown by the Punjab police personnel. I am the direct witness to it as when I joined the Indian police service in 1987 the state was passing through the dark phase. When we went into villages to conduct raids I have seen my own security guards being gunned down but despite that many did not fear bullets. It is because of such bravery of the police personnel that Punjab saw the peace returning to the state. I bow before such sacrifices made by the personnel while Punjab was facing shed blood.
Barnala senior superintendent of police Sandeep Goel said that the memorial is dedicated to 27 personnel who laid down lives for the unity and integrity of the country.
