Do these 6 things to reduce your electricity bill

Taking small steps and choosing right alternatives can help you cut on your electricity consumption and reduce bill amounts by a huge margin. Using solar alternatives, ensuring that appliances are completely turned off or using smart Wi-Fi enabled switches can help you lower power consumption. The intent should be to avoid wastage of electricity as much as you can. Here are some tips that can help you reduce your electricity bills. Read on.
Turn off appliances completely when not in use
Let’s start with the most basic yet effective way to reduce electricity bills. Turn off lights, fans, home appliances and other electronic devices runs on electricity when not in use. This also includes switching off the TV, washing machines, etc completely by turning off the switch and not keeping them on standby mode by just switching off from the remote control.
Always go for energy efficient products
Higher the energy efficiency rating, lower will be the power consumption. For example, a 1.5-ton 5-star AC consumes around 800 units per year in comparison to 975 units in a 3 star AC of same capacity. The same goes for other products like refrigerators, washing machines, TVs, among others.
Make your devices smart to save electricity
Adding a smart option can help you automate things and reduce electricity consumption. For example, you can use a smart plug or a universal Wi-Fi remote to schedule AC’s operating at night. Instead of running it throughout the night, you can schedule the AC to turn on and off after a certain interval or at a particular time even when you are asleep.
The same can be done for geysers, motors, room heaters and other heavy appliances. Similarly, smart lights can be set to turn on automatically at sunset and off at sunrise.
Use kitchen appliances wisely and when needed
Try to avoid using a microwave, electric kettle, air fryer or other heating devices for a prolonged period of time when you can. These appliances consume a lot of electricity and some of them draw power similar to a geyser or AC. So, if something can be done on a regular gas stove, it’s always a cheap and feasible option to go with.
Use smart Wi-Fi enable energy meter to measure electricity consumption
There are several smart energy meters available which not only measure the electricity consumption of the entire house but also analyse the consumption trends in real-time. They can even warn you about power leaks or which appliance is using more electricity at the moment.
Switch to alternate power source like solar
There’s always an option to set up a complete solar system in your house, but that’s an expensive proposition. What we are saying is to cut some corners with balcony lights, or garden lights. There are outdoor solar lights, fans or a small solar system can do the same job at minimal cost.
