is the meta quest 2 still good for gaming

Despite being released in 2020, the Meta Quest 2 remains popular, especially when considering the price of the Meta Quest Pro, so is the Meta Quest 2 still good for gaming? Let’s see.

Despite the Meta Quest 2 getting a bit old, it’s still a very attractive product, even after the price increase it received. For those of you who don’t want to wait for the final Meta Quest 3 and aren’t convinced the Meta Quest Pro is worth it, the Meta Quest 2 might just be the best VR gaming headset for you.

is the Meta Quest 2 still good for gaming? This is the question we’re going to answer, so let’s get to it.

One of the reasons why Meta Quest 2 is still good for gaming is the spec sheet. Despite not containing the latest and greatest tech, it’s still a formidable VR gaming headset, especially within the standalone category.

Meta Quest 2 specifications

  • processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2
  • RAM: 6GB
  • Storage: 256GB
  • Display: LCD panels, 1832 × 1920 per eye
  • IPD (Inter-pupillary distance): 2.3″ – 2.7″/58 to 68 mm
  • Weight: 0.53kg

Of course, the capabilities of any standalone VR gaming headset pale in comparison to what’s on offer from things like the PSVR 2 and Steam Index.

That said, given the above specs and the continued popularity of this headset, we can confidently say that the Meta Quest 2 is still good for gaming, at least as far as specs are concerned.

Unfortunately, despite the impressive capabilities of the Meta Quest 2, it has technically been superseded by the Meta Quest Pro, and sometime next year the Meta Quest 3 will eclipse it as well.

However, this does not mean that support for the Meta Quest 2 will end immediately. Meta will continue to support the Meta Quest 2 until there is no longer enough audience for it.

This will probably take at least a year, so you won’t immediately feel like you’ve wasted money if you buy a Meta Quest 2 now, but it’s something to think about.

Additionally, before Meta itself ends support, it’s wise to bear in mind that VR game developers may be refocusing their attention and efforts on the latest series of VR headsets, so the games may no longer run on the Meta Quest 2 arrive.
