Justin Fields left after Bears lost to Falcons

After falling 27-24 to the Atlanta Falcons, Justin Fields was carted off the field at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. He had been seen undergoing treatment on his hamstrings earlier in the match, and when the match ended his left shoulder was clearly hurting him.

Fields had put in a remarkable run coming into Atlanta. But his statistical performance did not translate into wins. Entering the game, Fields was 0-5 the year he had a chance to take the Bears to victory after either tied or went one possession behind.

The Falcons passed Fields in the 2021 draft to select tight end Kyle Pitts, who was also injured on Sunday. Fields spent much of the game showing Atlanta fans what they could have had, combining elusiveness and touch to rack up 17 consecutive points. The highlight: finding Cole Kmet for a spectacular one-handed catch.

The first half started out as more of the same for Fields, who has become a fantasy legend in recent weeks for his incredible production. He finished the game with 85 yards rushing and 153 yards passing. HE passed several passes for big wins, and the Falcons spent the first half wary of Fields’ ability to break open a game with his legs.

But as the game progressed, it became clear that Fields was losing mobility and explosiveness, and by the time Fields had a chance to guide Chicago on a potential game-winning drive, he was clearly in too much pain to take the Bears to navigating victory. . He threw a game-ending interception and immediately stumbled to the sidelines, refusing to even go through the usual post-game handshake routine because of the pain.

After the game, Fields indicated that he had received an x-ray on his left shoulder, adding, “The pain is pretty bad right now.” He also told reporters that he had been cramping during the match and was put on an IV. Bears head coach Matt Eberflus gave no details other than the fact that Fields’ shoulder “got jabbed” and that doctors are “taking care of it”. Further tests will follow this week.

Despite Fields’ continued heroics, Chicago has now lost four straight and sits at 3-8 on the season. The Bears don’t have a bye week until Week 14, next week they face the Jets on the road before the Packers come to Chicago.
